Second Viking Assault - [video]

[It's hard to tell exactly where Astrid is when she turns her gear on, but there are trees around, and her Axew is visible resting against one behind her, keeping watch over two pokemon eggs. (She hasn't really gotten the hang of keeping them in pokeballs yet, it seems...mean.) Her attention isn't on them though, she's looking at the screen almost thoughtfully.]

I've been trying to get the hang of all the...little things here, so I decided to try and catch one of the wild pokemon running around on the paths. Which worked, except...

[She turns her camera around to reveal a Sentret happily sitting on the ground in front of her, bouncing up and down on her tail as she watches Astrid.]

I just picked it because it was the first one I found. And now I've caught it and I'm...not really sure what to do with it.

I mean...[She turns the camera back to her.] There are dragons here. And fire breathing dogs, and electric vermin, and so many other powerful looking creatures...

[She turns the camera back to the Sentret, who seems quite happy to be the center of attention.]

Then there's her. ...She looks like something babies sleep with. Or something bigger, stronger animals like to eat.

Do people really train these?

[There's a barking noise in the background as Stiles picks up Woofington. His Lillipup looks far too content in his arms]

People really do, however weird that sounds. Anyway, I haven't seen that kind before, but if you train it up it'll probably evolve. That's what most pokemon do.

No, I know they...I just mean...these. That one. These...cute ones [She rolls her eyes.] instead of the fire wolves or dragons.

It looks like a toy.

Sentret? Give it a chance. Just because it doesn't look terrifying doesn't mean it can't wreak somebody.

Maybe...but I mean, size is kind of important. Sometimes. Or at least weapons. Fangs, claws...fire breath.

She just has a tail. A fuzzy tail.

[Astrid isn't very good at first impressions with her pokemon, sadly.]

[A Noctowl is preening Hiccup's hair as he hits reply. Laila's been extra affectionate, now that her little fledgling isn't freezing things over and therefore safe to be around. The poor thing was still sick, though...]

I'm going to bet that she'll surprise you... Dinkfin looked pretty harmless when I first got him.

[Though he didn't doubt that her species was prey to other pokemon. Just going to ignore that and start looking at those eggs.]

So you've got a Growlithe egg, huh? What's the other one?

[Astrid appears to study the little screen carefully, checking Hiccup to make sure he doesn't look worse than he did before. Maybe less blue.]

Hey. How're you feeling? [A little pause.]...Dinkfin?

[She's picturing some kind of little mouse thing. And then she glances back at her eggs.]

Uh. Karkat said it was a...Shinx?

I'm...alright. Tired. [There's a small smile on his face.] But my pokemon don't avoid me anymore.

He's a-- Well, hang on, I'll get him. [With a soft protest from Momowl, Hiccup crawls off-screen for a few seconds. He returns with pokeball and releases his Seadra, who is nothing like a mouse. Evolution caused him to nearly triple in size, though Dinkfin is still small for his species.] This is Dinkfin. He used to be a lot smaller, back when he was a Horsea... I could carry him around. He's a Seadra, now.

[Hiccup nods as he hears the name--not one he's familiar with, but he does remember them from Karkat's advertising. Now that he's settled again, Laila resumes her mothering.] So you got something from him, too...

You'll find that appearance means very little, when it comes to Pokémon. Besides, with the right TMs or a helpful Move Tutor, Normal-types can learn a surprising variety of attacks.

You can buy new attacks for Pokémon in Goldenrod. They're usually rather expensive, but well worth it.

I just remember they're extremely easy to beat at that level.

They are. Tusk basically bopped her over the head, and then I...threw the ball at her.

[She sighs. Why does everything in this world have to sound ridiculous when you're talking about it?]

It's getting easier, though, right?

I'd imagine you'll come to appreciate the move Quick Attack soon. You're almost guaranteed to go first in a battle.

[Astrid frowns and checks the move list again, then back to the woman.]

She doesn't know that. Does she learn it later?

Mm. If it knows Defense Curl, it should only be a handful more battles before it learns Quick Attack.

[It's equally hard to tell where this kid is. Somewhere forested at least.]

That's a Sentret. They turn into a Furret like this one. [He points the camera down slightly to show a Furret standing on its hind legs next to him. Did you know they're almost six feet long? Furret misses her days as a shoulder pet already.]

If you don't want to take care of her you should let her go back to where you caught her.

A furret? [She's not entirely sure what she thinks of the strange looking animal, though she can sort of see how it got there from the little Sentret. 'Evolving' is a very strange concept to her.]

Maybe. I think I'm going to keep her. People seem to think she'd be okay. I guess I'm curious.

Make sure to take good care of her.

This one has been fun to travel with. [He smiles down at Furret, who does her version of a smile back and gives a little "Furr~".] She doesn't know how to breathe fire or anything like that, but things like that aren't important. She says she can learn how with one of those TM things though. She's used a few of them already.

If you train them well even the small ones can become really big and dangerous.

In case you didn't know, that's the small form of a Death weasel.

Yep, they can be really crazy ferocious after they evolve.

Looks like it. Then again, they're supposed to get tougher the more you train them, right? Who knows, maybe she'll get bigger and stronger after she gets a few fights under her belt.
