First Viking Assault - [Video]
[When the camera turns on, it’s upside down, and shows a lovely pair of fur lined brown boots sitting on the ground, folded beneath a red leather skirt covered in…are those spikes? They certainly look like spikes. The camera shakes a few times, and then violently shifts to the left as though someone smacked it. And then there is a sigh.]
This can’t be right.
[The voice is female, and frustrated, and after a moment the camera moves wildly again, as it lifts up into the air, showing an image from above of a blonde teenager sitting on the grass somewhere, leaning her back against a tree, and there is a green pokemon curled up on the ground next to her chewing intently on what might be a rock. She looks like she’s about to throw the pokegear away, even make a little growl of frustration, but she happens to glance up at the last second and see that the screen is actually doing something.]
[She brings it back down, frowning at it (still upside down) as she taps the screen with her thumb a few times and finally turns it the right side over. After a few more seconds of poking and prodding, and a few more of pushing her Pokemon out of the way when it becomes a bit too curious about what’s on the shiny machine, she slumps down where she’s sitting and just stares at the screen.]
Okay. That guy. That professor said I can use this to talk to people. Other people, I mean, besides…everyone in this town…people who also woke up in a weird house with a little creature following them around, I mean.
[Some of her anger might be showing through there.]
So, hello. Hi. Whatever. I’m Astrid. I need- [She cuts off as the Axew suddenly pokes his head back into view again, and there’s more shuffling as she pushes him back off-screen.] Sit. Stay. Right there. Good boy.
Anyway. Other than some stuff that didn’t make any sense, all I know is I’ve got this guy following me around and something about training and collecting and…look, it doesn’t matter. I just need to know where Stormfly, my dragon, is…and my axe…and how to get home.
In that order. Thanks.
[Some more fumbling and after about fifteen seconds of a lovely shot of the palm of her hand, Astrid manages to turn the device off.]

video;
In that order? I'd imagine it's something to the effect of, "still at home", "still at home", and "if any of us were aware of that, I highly doubt we would still be here to answer this question for you", really.
video;
[But there's a huge difference between being told something will let people talk to you, and actually seeing it. So for several moments she just stares at the man on the screen as if she's trying to figure out what sort of magic stuck him in there. She even turns the little device around a few times as if checking to see if he's somehow standing behind it. And then she sighs and rubs at her forehead.]
...Right. I thought that might be it, about going home, it didn't make sense if people stayed here but could and...whatever. I couldn't just not ask.
video;
I'd also suggest you keep the jostling of your device to a minimum — that won't make you many friends, jerking it around like that.
[He adjusts his glasses, then goes on.]
I'll warn you, a message like this is almost certain to guarantee you a great deal of friendly people turning up to give you advice about your new circumstances. That said, it might be most prudent to start by concerning yourself with how to use your Gear. At the moment, you should be seeing me on the screen. A little above that, there ought to be what looks like a small glass circle with a red light nearby. Do you see something like that?
video;
None of them are going to know how to get home either, are they. [She asks this in that tone of voice that indicates she can pretty much guess the answer. And then she appears to be looking for what he's telling her to look for, and after a few moments of searching she nods.]
Yes. The little light is bright red. What does it mean?
video;
[He remarks, very patiently, which has less to do with the fact that she's obviously new and more because he's sometimes just a vaguely condescending asshole beneath his otherwise courteous exterior.]
That means your camera is activated. That is, just as you can see me right now, I can also see you on my end — you have blonde hair and are wearing brown boots and a red skirt, for example. If that light were off, the camera would be deactivated, and I wouldn't be able to see you.
What I'm able to see depends on what you point the glass circle at. Right now, it's pointing at you — hence, I see you. Thus, when you shake the device around like you're in the middle of a storm at sea, it tends to make the rest of us watching it rather nauseous.

[audio] adkfljsg, this took longer than it should have SORRY.
In truth, he had given up hope of getting to see someone from Berk again in Johto--he had even accepted it, settling instead with a group of friends and, though sometimes he doubted they would consider themselves such, guardians. Now that Astrid was here, though... He can't imagine going back to the way it was.
Astrid. In Johto. He wasn't 'alone' anymore.
Between gaping at the feed and wondering which greeting would come off the least moronic, it's a while before he replies. (Yes, he didn't impulse reply and babble like an idiot. Praise his self-control.) Given his condition, though, he sticks to audio-only. A familiar face is comforting, but not when it has discolored spikes on it.]
Sorry, m'lady, but I'm afraid I can't help you much... I can tell you that your dragon and axe are back home, but not how to get there. Can you ever forgive me?
[Awh yeah, so suave.]
[video] It's fine! Hi!
Hiccup?
[She pushes to her feet, frowning at the empty field and trees around her and taking a few steps away, ignoring her Axew as he nudges at her shin. She hadn't expected to hear any familiar voices, not from what the other teen she had spoken to had said.]
Where are you? Hiccup!
[After a moment of peering around, she finally picks up the little machine again, frowning at it. She's looking for traces of someone covering up the camera...she doesn't actually know it only does voices yet. That's a completely different trick. She gives it a shake, making the video bounce.]
...Is it this stupid thing?
[She isn't exactly thrilled with technology, it seems.]
[audio]
Settle down, Astrid, yes it's the stu-- I mean, the pokegear.
[He likes technology. This thing wasn't stupid, it was fascinating.]
I'm somewhere else, okay? But the pokegear will let me communicate with you. This world is much more advanced than Berk. So are you, uh... Okay?
[video]
I'm fine, Hiccup. Well, as fine as I can be without Stormfly or my axe but...what's going on? You sound terrible.
[She pokes at the little device again.]
And why can't I see you? I can see everyone else.

So, Astrid, have a brown-haired girl adorned with red ribbons smiling back onto the feed. ]
I've never heard of a Stormfly, but I think that little guy next to you is a dragon-type pokemon!
[ And your axe?... That means guitar, for J-Rockers, right?... Yeah... ]
I think your axe still might be at home, but don't worry! I'm sure you can find one here, so you can keep up your practice!
[ Yeah totally wrong context here. ]
video;
Stormfly is my dragon. She's...much bigger than this.
[She glances down at the Axew, who happily bounces in place.]
A dragon type...[This part is almost said to herself, and then something else the girl said clicks, and she looks back at the screen.] What? But people have said weapons don't come with us here. Where can I find another one?!
[She wants an axe!]
video;
[ Haruka beams! This girl really is hardcore! Not a moment out of the house in New Bark Town and already somehow she has a super cool pokemon! ]
Right! You don't get anything when you come here--at least except for things in your pockets--but you can find a replacement for your "axe"!
[ slight emphasis on the word "axe" because hey she understands J-ROCK lingo too! Look, she's an inside in the industry also!!! ]
Maybe not in the first town, because I didn't see any stores that would sell it, but I'm in a very large city now called Goldenrod, and I'm very sure you could get a brand new one!
[ Ahh, Haruka, what a doofus. ]
video;
[Small pride, maybe.]
Goldenrod. [Well, a town she's never heard of.]
How far is that from where I am? And...how much would an axe...cost? Do you know what they're like? How big are they?
[She knew of money, but she'd never had cause to actually need any.]

video; wow this is old
video; Just a tad.
[video]
[ wow, Astrid, you are like #5 on Ai's Cool List automatically. ]
[video]
Yes, a Deadly Nadder. But she didn't come with me.
[She glances down at the Axew again. Sorry little guy, she'll love you eventually! But not yet.]
[video]
... That sounds deadly.
[ she's really not as dumb as she sounds on occasion, promise. ]
[video]
Yeah, she is. All dragons are, though we stopped fighting with them. Now I just have him.
[She indicates her Axew. Who does not look deadly at all.]

[... And wouldn't you know it, that dress code looks mighty similar.]
[But she'll wait to ask.]
'Fraid you might be stuck here for awhile.
You'll probably have to get used to the scenery.
[Video]
The scenery's not so bad. A change from the snow, anyway.
[Video]
[That's right, she's pretty sure Hiccup had mentioned a cold climate, too.]
Come winter, it'll probably start looking a lot more familiar.
[Video]
[She shrugs.]
I'd like to get home, but I'm not in any rush for more snow.
