[Astrid is in Ecruteak, and she looks...puzzled. She's frowning at her gear absently as she starts to talk.]

Okay. So, I've learned to deal with a lot here, really. Riding on the back of a giant bird, eggs that hatch into dogs, animals that get 'knocked out' instead of killed.

Ghost masks that make you think you're other people and no I am never going to talk about that.

Ghosts in general. I caught a ghost! He looks like a furry floating dark thing that grins. Which is weird. It's all weird.

But I think...this sort of wins.

[She turns the camera away now, to where her Wailmer is sitting on the ground looking gigantic and very happy. He sort of wiggles at the camera in what might be an attempt at a tail wag.]

He hatched from an egg that I could hold in my hands. Egg to that. He's HUGE. [And back to Astrid.] The 'Ball Whale Pokemon.' Seriously? And the strangest thing? Someone mailed me the egg. Anonymously. Someone looked at this and thought 'I'm going to give this whale thing to the viking girl.'

[She just shakes her head.]

I think I'm gonna name him 'Ball.'

Then look at it this way: it's a fucking whale. Gonna take a lot of hits to bring it down. If you keep it, you'll have a pretty good front liner.

Can you fight with a whale on land? I mean, it says you can but...

Doesn't hurt to find out.

Besides, that'll be one hell of a surprise for your opponent, right?

If he was big enough, you could just throw the ball up in the air and let him fall on them.

For the record: they're definitely big enough.

Not really. If the enemy's quick enough, they might be able to get out of the way. I guess you can tell 'em it's a big fucking whale before you throw the ball if you want, but that's on you.

But even then, that would only take out one Pokemon out of however many are on their team. Dropping him on the enemy is the sort of thing that'll only work once per battle, anyway.

Then they'd have to find a way to beat up a giant whale though.

It's a water type, so the usual electric and grass will work. And from what I hear, their defenses aren't too great; it's just a lot of whale to take down. Kinda like a giant marshmallow.

So, it's a giant whale...that's not good in a fight.

Something like that. They might be able to do at least some damage since hey, they're giant whales.

I have other pokemon that can do 'a little damage.' And they aren't the size of a house!

[She's making a point of muttering this so the whale can't hear, at least.]

I dunno, man; it's your call. I say give it a shot and see what happens. I don't know much about 'em since I haven't seen any in person, but it could be damn interesting.

...Oh yeah, of course. I'll train him.

[Astrid trains everything. Even weird flying rat things.]

Sweet. You'll probably be able to make one hell of an entrance with that guy, too. Drop right in, ride a whale to battle...you know, shit like that.

It's a shame he can't learn fly.

Yeah; a flying whale would be damn crazy. At least it'll already be big enough to take people by surprise.

Considering how weird the rules are here, I'm surprised he can't.

You got a point there. Fish turn into sea serpents and foxes make illusions and annoy the hell out of you. There's something to say about a place when the only thing that makes sense is a whale not able to fly.

Unless he can and just no one has figured out how then.
