[Astrid is sitting on a bench outside of one of the big stores in Goldenrod, looking...a bit cross. After a minute of glaring at the camera, she reaches off screen and holds up a blue and yellow guitar.]

Whoever told me you could buy axes in Goldenrod, if this is what you meant...

[Yes, she's cross!]

This is not an axe! It's some kind of music...thing. I don't know. I asked for an axe and the guy sold me this. I don't even know what to do with it! I thought maybe it was a carrying case for an axe, some kind of modern...trick.

But it's not!

[She huffs and sets her guitar back down in her lap, plucking irritably at one of the strings.]

I don't suppose anybody does know what to do with it? I bought it, I have to do something with it.

[Another pause, and then she seems to remember something.]

Oh right, also. There's a thing that teaches pokemon to fly? A disc or square or...I don't know, whatever the word is. Someone said you can use it more than once, does anybody in goldenrod have one I could borrow for a couple minutes?

Most adult fighters I know are...erm... Bigger. You know.

[She makes sort of vague 'muscly' gestures.]

It does not matter quite as much where I am from.

Well...back home everyone wound up being really big. They all grew up fighting dragons, bigger was much better.

What did you fight?

Have you managed to find someone to share their HM for Fly with you? If not, I can oblige you, since I see you've made it to Goldenrod now.

Are you in this city too?

I live here. My house is next to the Breeding Center, if you're familiar with where that is.

...I think I know where that is. I'm still sort of getting used to everything here, it's bigger than some of the other towns.

The biggest in Johto, actually. Hence why so many people tend to gather here; there are considerably more opportunities and amenities than in most of the other towns.

Though I'd imagine you're not particularly familiar with sprawling modern metropolises, are you?

No. Not at all.

I mean, I can deal, but some of the buildings...

[Everything is so tall!]

It's an acquired taste, I suppose. Though rather unsettling, for people more accustomed to seeing a wide expanse of sky.

Still, the outskirts are a bit more palatable than the areas downtown. The neighborhood I live in is somewhat more residential, and the buildings are only a story or two, as opposed to the skyscrapers in the more commercial areas.

Yeah. You can see in every direction back home, until you hit the mountains. [She shakes her head.]

I think that's part of why I want fly so much.

I'm afraid it's not quite so simple as just teaching your Pokemon the move and setting off, though. Or rather, in some cases it might be, but not in all of them. Generally mount and rider have to do a certain amount of getting used to each other, first, before they make a compatible flying team.

[Translation: his Pidgeot dumped him on his ass about twelve times before he learned to fly her. News at eleven.]

I learned how to fly on a dragon that throws spikes from her tail and breathes fire.

I think I'll be okay on a bird.

Assuming the bird likes you well enough to carry you.

Why wouldn't Meatball like me?

I can think of at least one possible reason, namely that you named him Meatball.

It's descriptive! He's a pudgy meatball bird.

[She rolls her eyes.]

I really don't think he minds. He answers to it!

It's a good way of enjoying the scenery, and it's much harder to find a rare Pokémon while flying.

It seems like weapons of any kind are hard to come by here. [Probably because they're illegal, but shh. Sasuke isn't exactly a fan of the 'no weapons' deal.]
